Following the homage to Hugo Pratt and the character of Corto Maltese [link] and the tribute to Winsor McCay's 'Little Nemo in Slumberland' [link] it's now time for something close to heart; Bill Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes. Hopefully on the cover of 9 magazine sometime soon
I noticed at the time that Calvin's color palette matches the colors of the flag (white/blond hair, red t-shirt, blue-jeans)so I went for an "all-american" feel to it... plus this was to be printed sometime close to the 4th of July...
The soft rendering makes it for me.
The tattoo is really neat too.
Why the flag?
